Tallulah's Taqueria

When you meet someone for the first time there are usually some generic “getting to know you” questions people always love to ask. One of them being “If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?” I know my answer immediately—My choice is consistently Mexican food. It is fresh, delicious, and you can make so many different dishes with only a few ingredients. And now I want Mexican food, and it is only 10am. Breakfast Burritos anyone?

I am here to tell you that I have found the home of some of the most delicious tacos I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. Located in a little shop on Ives Street in Providence lies a true hidden gem of the city: Tallulah's Taqueria. Owned by Chef Jake Rojas, this little place is cooking up huge flavors. Everything I have tried is fresh and delicious, from the carnitas tacos to the chicken tortas. The agua fresca is different every day and is the perfect accompaniment to whatever you choose. My favorite component is also the simplest – the freshly made pickled radishes that pair so perfectly with the spiciness of the salsa. Do not even get me started on the tostadas.

As you walk up to Tallulah’s it draws you in like a force. The beautiful artwork and bright colors immediately transport you to another world. They have both indoor and outdoor seating perfect for small and large groups. Tallulah’s is open Monday through Saturday from 11am – 10pm and Sundays from 10am – 9pm. And yes, they do have breakfast.

If you have yet to take the journey to Tallulah’s you should change that immediately. Fair warning: you will get taco cravings, and you will go there more than once in a week.

Or maybe that’s just me.
